Active Soil Depressurization
Soil gas pollution is more common than most think. It is usually encountered in houses that have crawlspaces or dirt/ground basement floors. The soil gases, which includes radon, are able to rise up through the ground and into the indoor air space. Because the entire basement floor is dirt/ground, the radon has an easy time entering the basement air. This means more radon enters the building envelope at a quicker rate compared to a house that does not have a dirt floor or crawlspace.
The Steps
We won't give away all our secrets, but we will go over the process in general for you...
We will start this process by performing a preliminary test to determine if the home is at risk of vapor intrusion. We will also test to determine the effectiveness of our depressurization. The next thing to do is to install an ASD system that will take care of all these toxic gases. When constructing an ASD system, the following steps are taken. A a suction point is selected. A radon membrane is installed over the soil/ground, which is then sealed and secured to the foundation walls. A suction pipe will be sent through the suction point till it gets to the exterior of the home. Outside, a radon fan, electrical system, and discharge pipe will be installed. Just like with active sub-slab depressurization, this exhaust pipe will exit through the side wall and terminate within a foot from that side wall.
Active Soil Depressurisation Is An Effective Solution to Vapor Intrusion
Without any doubt, vapor intrusion is caused by soil contamination. We have carried out some research on the presence of volatile organic compounds in the soil in Kanata, Ontario. With this research, we have been able to come up with a solution for ridding your home of these compounds. Active Soil Depressurization (ASD) is the solution that we have adopted to serve homeowners in Kanata, Ontario. This technique is the most effective method to prevent poisonous gases from entering your home from the soil. This solution is most suitable for homes with a crawlspace or dirt floor at the lowest part of the home. Active Soil Depressurization is performed by reversing the air pressure relationship between the interior of your home and the soil. The negative air pressure will draw the toxic gases away from your home.
